One Telugu film that has been making buzz for a long time is Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan’s ‘Premam’ as this film is based on a roaring Malalaylam hit of the same name that starred Nivin Pauly.

The Malayalam songs of “Premam”, the girls of the movie made all young hearts fall in love. So when the remake was announced with Naga Chaitanya, the buzz around the movie began.

But the movie also received online criticism for Shruti Haasan when the trailers came out as the fans of Malayalam movie felt that she didn’t fit in the role that was originally played by the beautiful Sai Pallavi.

So how is the film in Telugu? Have the makers been faithful to the original, bettered or ruined it, let’s find out…

Story:
Vicky (Naga Chaitanya), a school student, is bewitched by the beauty Suma (Anupama). He follows her daily and befriends her. When he is about to propose her he gets a shock from her. First love broke his heart.

In college, he falls in love again. He is mesmerized by charms of his college lecturer Sithara (Shruti Haasan) who also reciprocates the same. When everything is going good for him, he gets another shock. Second time he gets a heart break.

Years pass and he is settled in life now as chef and restaurant owner, and this time a girl much younger to him comes into his life.

Artistes’ Performances:
This is Naga Chaitanya’s good work till date. He has shown the variation to all three shades of his character. He is perfect as school student; he is apt as university student too. As an entrepreneur also he is convincing. Unlike the original Malayalam hero, he has not shown intensity but he is suitable to the role.

Shruti Haasan as a college lecturer is suited well. Both Anupama and Madonna have played the same roles that they did in the Malayalam original. Anupama is so beautiful but Madonna is okay.

As Naga Chaitanya’s friends Chaitanya and Praveen are okay. Narra Srinu and Brahmaji’s comedy track is hilarious.

Technical Excellence:
Music of the movie gives mixed feelings. “Evare” which is Telugu version of “Malare” is major attraction while “Agarotthula” and “Bang Bang” are also just average. A couple of better songs in the second half would have made a lot difference.

Karthik Ghattamaneni’s camera work is decent. Editing is neat. The film has rich production values.

As screenplay writer and director Chandoo Mondeti have not spoiled the original movie’s content but he has changed many things to make it more suitable to Telugu audiences.

Highlights:
Story
Naga Chaitanya and the girls
Cinematography
Comedy

Drawback:
Last 20 minutes

Analysis:
“Premam”, like the original Malayalam movie, is focused on three stages in hero’s life, three girls he encounters in each stage. The story and screenplay of the movie is almost similar to the original movie.

The hero falling in love with a girl, getting heart break and moving on and failing in love… all are similar to the original story.

Director Chandoo Mondeti has incorporated little changes to make it more commercial which give mixed feelings. While the comedy part is hilarious, the changes also don’t fit perfectly to the sensitive storyline.

The beauty of this movie as well as the original film is the two first two stories. Naga Chaitanya is perfect in the role of a school boy who fell for the beauty of Anupama. This episode has come out so well but it is very short. Still it sets the mood perfectly to involve in the movie. Then the story draws us to the next story where in hero falls for his college lecturer.

While in the original movie Sai Pallavi played this role as Tamil girl, here the role played by Shruti is of Marathi and Tamil origin.

Although Shruti Haasan’s story is dragged a little bit this episode also works out due to sufficient inclusion of comedy. Both Brahmaji and Narra Srinu as lecturers have provided ample amount of comedy here.

Though the chemistry between Chaitu and Shruti is not crackling, they have looked good as a pair. The twist in the story of Shruti is interesting.

Metamorphosis of Naga Chaitanya’s love, his attempts to woo the girls have been shown beautifully too but it seems same care is not taken in the final part. The scenes seem to have shot in a hurried way.

The story has fallen drastically after the Shruti’s episode comes to an end. The final scenes are completely commercialized to satisfy Nagarjuna/Naga Chaitanya’s fans.

I he had shown the third episode more interestingly, the movie would have been a better one. On the whole, it turns out to be satisfying watch.

Bottom-line: Feel Good Love

Plus Points:
Performance of Ram
Glamour of Raashi Khanna
Dialogues

Minus points:
No thrill
Predicable story line
Lack of Entertainment
BGM

Performance: Actor Ram is at his spontaneous best and proves that he can pull off any role with ease. He has delivered energetic performance and has done justification with his role. His energy level is superb and suited to his character. His body languages and way of dialogue delivery are superb. Sathyaraj in the role of father performed well and takes the movie to another level with his wonderful performance. The sequences that Ram shares with his father keeps the audiences hooked to the seat. Raashi Khanna as Bhanumathi, became successful to drag the attention of the audiences by her glamour but she did not get much screen space to prove herself. Sathyaraj is perfect in his role. Naresh, Tulsi Shivamani, Fish Venkat, Prabhas Sreenu and others justified with their characters.

Technical: The production value of 14 Reels Entertainment is good. The cinematography is breath-taking and the cameraman captured the visual of Vizag in splendid manner. The music of Ghibran is just ok and the background score by Mani Sharma is below average. The director Santosh has become successful to utilize the talent of Ram and became fail to engage the audiences as the second half of the movie tests the patience of the audiences. The editing is below par. The comedy works well for the film. The concept of the story is good but it also succumbs to the usual template of a thriller.

Analysis: Overall Hyper is a complete entertainer with all the emotions in right proportions. The performance of Ram, and the chemistry between Ram and Sathyaraj, screenplay and funny scenes with father love are the major highlights. The major drawback of Hyper is its predictable story line and second half. The movie carries social message which is conveyed by powerful dialogues. Hyper doesn’t have anything new to offer in terms of plot. The director Santosh Srinivas became fail to execute the movie with good flavour.

Overall, Hyper is a regular mass movie that is neither quite dismissible nor it is very impressive. Okay movie with entertaining first half.

Review : Inkokkadu – Only for Vikram

Inkokkadu

Release date : September 8, 2016

 Rating : 2.75/5

Director : Anand Shankar

Producer : Shibu Thameens

Music Director : Harris Jayaraj

Starring : Vikram, Nayantara, Nithya Menen

National Award winner Vikram, is back with yet another interesting film Inkokkadu. The action entertainer which has the star hero in a double role has hit the screens all over today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:-

Th entire Malaysian police are busy cracking a mysterious case about a dreaded criminal called Love(Vikram). They have no idea about him and where he operates from. One fine day, they get a clue that an ex-RAW agent, Akhil(Vikram) had a personal vendetta against Love and was dealing the case four years back.

They hunt Akhil down and ask him to take up the case. Who is this Love ? What personal problem did Akhil have with Love ? How did Akhil tackle this case ? and where do Nayanthara and Nithya Menen feature in this entire set up ? That form the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-

Vikram is the heart and soul of the film. It is his double role which attracts the audience right away into the proceedings. The star actor is especially good as Love. Be it his body language, dialogue delivery and walking style, he is a treat to watch whenever he is on screen.

Nayanthara plays a different role and has very good screen presence. The interval bang leaves you with a surprise and sets the film up nicely. The first half has good chases, interesting investigation scenes, and superb performances.Special mention should go to Harris Jayraj’s background score which elevates the film to another level.

Minus Points:-

After a gripping first half, things get slightly slow as the film loses its pace in certain areas. Also, the presence of two songs in unwanted areas disturbs the flow of the film to an extent.

Off late, Nithya Menen has been doing these small roles which do not have any weight in the film. She is wasted in her role as Vikram overshadows her completely throughout the film.

After a point where the twists are revealed, the second half becomes a bit predictable and it is left to the villain character played by Vikram to bring spice into the proceedings.

Technical Aspects :-

Inkokkadu is very strong on technical aspects. Production values are superb as the action entertainer looks quite stylish. Even the way all the characters have been styled is very good. Inkokkadu is a screenplay based film which runs in investigation mode. The director Anand manages to engage the audience well during the first half but falters during the later part.

Music is just about okay but as said earlier, the background score is a highlight. The camerawork is stunning and showcases Malaysia and its surrounding quite well. Editing is below average as many scenes and a song during the second half could have been edited out.

Verdict:-

On the whole, Inkokkadu is a unique action entertainer which has its moments. Engaging first half and Vikram’s performances are a huge plus. This is a kind of film which will be liked only by action film lovers and general audience who love popcorn entertainers, might get disappointed. Finally, if you manage to ignore the lacklustre second half and predicatble storyline, you can give this film a shot for Vikram who is awesome as LOVE.

‘Janatha Garage’ Review: Needs Some Repairs

janatagarage111472711529

Movie: Janatha Garage
Rating: 3/5
Banner:
Mythri Movie Makers
Cast: NTR, Mohanlal, Samantha, Nithya Menen, Unni Mukund, Sai Kumar, Brahmaji, Benarjee, Ajay, Sitara, Devayani, Gunaji and others.
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cinematography: Thiru
Editing: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao
Fights: Anal Arasu
Art: A.S. Prakash
Producers: Naveen Yerneni, Mohan (CVM), Y.Ravi Shankar
Written and directed by: Koratala Siva
Release date: September 01, 2016

Fresh from the success of “Nannaku Prematho”, NTR has teamed up with hit director Koratala Siva for “Janatha Garage”. Ever since the movie was announced, it has created huge interest among the film lovers and with the casting of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal the interest hiked further.

As Koratala Siva is in top form and the trailers have become popular, the movie generated huge expectations. Touted as one of the biggest movies this season, it has hit screens in Telugu and Malayalam languages simultaneously.

Let’s find out how the film has fared and whether it has the potential to become blockbuster.

Story:
Satyam (Mohanlal) establishes an auto garage in Hyderabad in early 1980’s. Soon he becomes a leader to their locality. All people in the neighbourhood approach him for help and he also “repairs” (bashes up) men who do wrong to the people.

In the present day, Anand (NTR), an environmental researcher, studying and living in Mumbai frequently lands in problems for his cases against powerful people who pollute the nature. He also knows how to teach them a lesson by bashing them.

On a study exchange program, Anand comes down to Hyderabad and he closes down the illegal quarry of Satyam’s son Raghava (Unni). Impressed with Anand’s aggressive and righteous nature, Satyam asks him to take over his garage. Why? What is his motive?

Artistes’ Performances:

NTR has excelled once again where performance is concerned. He has shown his maturity when he does the scene of Samantha leaving him.

The great actor Mohanlal has not much scope for giving great performance but his presence itself mesmerizes. Samantha and Nithya Menen are wasted in the movie. Sai Kumar’s role is laughable. Ajay’s character lacks proper depth. The villainy done by Unni and Sachin Khedekar also fail to give desired results.

Among other actors Devyani has done good job. Kajal Agarwal’s item song comes at wrong time but she has tried to spice up the screen with ample skin show.

Technical Excellence:
The film boasts high technical values with top-notch camera work by renowned cinematographer Thiru and great artwork. Much of the film is shot at Janatha Garage set and even Mumbai set props are eye-catching.

Devi Sri Prasad’s music is okay. Only couple of songs are good. Editing is bad – from pace to keeping plenty of unnecessary scenes. Fights are routine. Dialogues are good but direction and narration are not effective.

Highlights:
NTR’s performance
NTR and Mohanlal’s scenes
GHMC Episode
Some dialogues

Drawback:
Dull first half
Heroines with no proper roles
Lack of emotional quotient
Weak Villain
Predictability
Lengthy runtime

Analysis:
“Idhi Oka Kutumba Katha”

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is a huge plus as all the songs have been composed quite well. Devi’s background score in the second half elevates the proceedings to a decent level. Production values of the film are pretty good. Camera work is superb as Hyderabad and Mumbai have been showcased in a wonderful light. Dialogues written by Koratala Shiva are meaningful. Editing is below average as the film needs to be trimmed by at least 15 minutes.

Coming to the director Koratala Shiva, he has done just an okay job with the film. Though his thought is good, he takes too much time to establish the story as the film catches steam only after the first half. He makes things predictable and ends the film on a simple note.

Verdict :-

On the whole, Janatha Garage is not your regular popcorn entertainer which Tollywood churns out every week. It is a character-driven film where the onus is on serious emotions. Though NTR performs brilliantly, Mohan Lal gets a prominent role and this might not go well with NTR’s fans. The film will appeal to the general audience more than the fans. Finally, if you ignore the predictable story line, you may give this film a shot. But keep your expectations in check.

Pawan In Full-Time Politics By Next Year?

Power star Pawan Kalyan
Power star Pawan Kalyan

Power star Pawan Kalyan, whose Jana Sena Party is virtually in limbo, may enter active politics by next year end.

This was indicated not by Pawan Kalyan, but by comedian Ali. He told media in Rajahmundry that Pavan had three films on hand at present and once he completed all the three, he would focus on full-time politics.

Assuming that it would be 2017 year end to complete all the three films, Pavan would come into active politics in another one and a half years.

By the way, Ali too is keen on entering politics by 2019. “I am also planning to join politics by 2019 elections. I cannot say now as to which party I would join. But I will hold a massive public meeting in Rajahmundry in 2019 and announce my plans then,” he said.

Since he is talking on behalf of Pawan Kalyan, can one assume that he would join his Jana Sena Party? In the past, there was a talk that he might join the Telugu Desam Party, but it did not happen. Now, we have to see which party Ali would choose.
